Michael Cohen

Michael is a postdoc at CHAI supervised by Stuart Russell. He received his PhD at Oxford University advised by Michael Osborne. His research has identified conditions under which we can expect advanced artificial long-term planning agents to escape humanity’s control in order to control their inputs, and he has developed multiple idealized designs for agents which avoid those conditions. This includes an isolated environment, pessimism, and robust imitation. Recently, he has also worked on designing a regulatory framework to prevent extinction from future advanced artificial agents.
